International Child Care College is connecting with St Nicholas Pathways to bring you the CONNEX program. This pathway offers an innovative and blended learning program of face-to-face classroom learning, online and workplace-based learning delivered at the St Nicholas Early Education centre in Maitland.

Eligible learners aged between 16 and 24 can enrol in CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care FEE FREE

Qualification: CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care


Study mode: Blended learning incorporating face-to-face class, online and workplace training. 


Location: Maitland, NSW


Duration: 12 months

Materials Required: Learners will need access to a computer and the internet with the following specifications:

  • Microsoft Office 2007 or equivalent and
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 or Mac OS X

Learners will also need access to a printer and the following applications:

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader and Macromedia Flash player.

How do I know if I’m eligible?

For learners to be enrolled FEE FREE under the NSW Government Skilling for Recovery Youth Initiative they must be:-

a young person aged 16-24.

living in NSW or working in NSW.

be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or humanitarian visa holder.

no longer at school.

NSW learners may be eligible for subsidies under NSW Smart and Skilled Entitlement training programs. ‘This training is subsidised by the NSW Government’.

Unit/s may be delivered by an agent under a third-party arrangement.

The CONNEX program provides you with hands-on experience to gain a thorough understanding of what it’s like to be an early childhood educator working with young children and families. You will develop skills and knowledge in:

building and creating play resources to support children 0-6 years

caring for babies, toddlers, and young children

working with families

supporting children’s development and well-being

identifying and responding to children and young people at risk

sustainable practices in a children’s centre

observing, analysing and gathering information to plan for children’s learning

Assessment is ongoing throughout the training period – there are no final exams. Assessment includes:

Knowledge assessment (Theory Tasks)

Skills assessment (Workplace Tasks)

Observation assessment (Observable Tasks)

Included in the course are the award-winning textbooks: The Big Picture and Birth to Big School.

Conditions of Enrolment & Entry Requirements:

  • Minimum age restrictions apply
  • Minimum numeracy and literacy skills apply
  • Living and/or seeking work within the Newcastle and Hunter regions.
  • Students must be able to attend face-to-face classroom learning in Muswellbrook
  • Students must be able to complete a minimum of 160 hours of work placement
