School Based Apprenticeship/Traineeship (SBAT) CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care

Comprehensive training for beginning Early Childhood Educators.

This entry level qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of early childhood education settings.

Study mode: Blended learning incorporating online and workplace training 

 

Duration: Years 10, 11 and 12 scheduled to complete all course work by the end of Term 3 and all work placement by the 31st December in the year of the student’s HSC.

 

Start date: Beginning of Term 4, Year 10 – End of Term 1, Year 11.

* NSW residents may be eligible to complete this qualification under the Smart and Skilled program. ‘This training is subsidised by the NSW Government’

 

Materials Required: Learners will need access to a computer and the internet with the following specifications:

  • Microsoft Office 2003 or equivalent and
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 or Mac OS X

 

Learners will also need access to a printer and the following applications:

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader and Macromedia Flash player.

Where learners are unable to access this technology, learners are able to request soft copy (USB) or hard copy (Paper documents) to allow for participation in the course.

ICCC’s SBAT program provides you with hands-on experience to gain a thorough understanding of what it’s like to be an early childhood educator working with young children and families. You will develop skills and knowledge in:

building and creating play resources to support children 0 – 6years

caring for babies, toddlers, and young children

working with families

supporting children’s development and well-being

identifying and responding to children and young people at risk

sustainable practices in a children’s centre

observing, analysing and gathering information to plan for children’s learning

Assessment is ongoing throughout the training period – there are no final exams. Assessment includes:

Knowledge assessment (Theory Tasks)

Skills assessment (Workplace Tasks)

Observation assessment (Observable Tasks)

Included in the course are the award-winning textbooks: The Big Picture and Birth to Big School.

 

Conditions of Enrolment & Entry Requirements:

  • Must be Australian / New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or holder of a humanitarian visa.
  • Must be still at school and work in approved areas of NSW.
  • Must work a minimum of 100 days (7 hours minimum workday). This includes 30 hours of workplace experience with children under 24 months.
  • Must work under supervision.
  • Minimum age restrictions of 16 years of age applies.
