Assessment is ongoing throughout the training period – there are no final exams.

Study Options

There are several options for learners to choose from when studying CHC30125 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care depending on your circumstances and study preferences. The tabs below display core information for each option.

For learners undertaking a traineeship, your learning is attached to your employment and supported by an Apprentice Connect Australia Provider (APAC) and Registered Training Organisation (RTO). Usually, you will first secure a position at a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care service and complete a “sign up” with an APAC shortly after – this is where you nominate the RTO that will provide training and assessment for your qualification, i.e. International Child Care College. If sign up happens within within 3 months of starting full-time employment or 12 months of part-time employment, you are considered a ‘New Entrant Trainee’, otherwise you are considered an ‘Existing Worker Trainee’.

Duration: 18 months full-time, 36 months part-time

Conditions of Enrolment

  • Students must be a minimum age of 16 to be eligible for enrolment;
  • Students must be employed in a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care service as a Trainee.

 

Fees: $0 to $10,040 – Fee Free for eligible NSW New Entrant Traineeships with training starting between 1/4/2026 and 30/06/2027

Important Information for Trainees

Student Information if you are currently a Trainee or employed as an Educator at a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care service

ICCC’s SBAT program provides hands-on experience, working with young children & families, to build a thorough understanding of the role of an Early Childhood Educator. You will undertake the same qualification as a trainee while still at school and gain credit towards your HSC (4 units in Year 11 and 4 units in Year 12).

 

Study mode: Online + Workplace Training
Duration: 24 months (High School Years 11 & 12)
Start Dates: Beginning of Term 4, Year 10 or End of Term 1, Year 11

 

Conditions of Enrolment

  • Students must be a minimum age of 16 to be eligible for enrolment;
  • Students must be currently attending school;
  • Students must be employed in a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care service as a School Based Trainee;
  • Students must be able to complete a minimum of 100 days in paid employment.

 

Fees: $0 – Fee Free for eligible NSW Traineeships with training starting between 01/04/2026 – 30/06/2027

Independent Learners’ Training Plans are not attached to an employer or workplace. However, you must still be able to complete the workplace components of assessment at a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care service, either as an employee or volunteer.

 

Study mode: Online + Workplace training

Conditions of Enrolment

  • Students must be a minimum age of 16 to be eligible for enrolment;
  • Students must be able to complete a minimum of 160 hours of work placement in a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care service.
  • Students must be living and/or seeking work within NSW (Excluding Sydney Region)

 

Fees: $0 to $10,040 – Fee Free for Eligible Learners under NSW Fee Free^ for training starting between 01/07/2026 and 31/12/2026.

General Entry Requirements

Course Requirements
In order to enrol in this course, you must fulfil the following entry requirements:

  • Meet the minimum age requirements
  • Be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen
  • Meet the minimum numeracy and literacy skills appropriate to this AQF level (assessed prior to enrolment)
  • Hold a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI) or obtain one prior to enrolment. Click here for more details on USI Numbers.

Workplace Requirements
This is a vocational qualification that features work-based training and assessment. To work or volunteer in an regulated Early Childhood Education and Care service, you must:

  • Hold a valid Working with Children Check (if 18 years or older)
  • Have completed mandatory National Child Safety Training as applicable under The Education and Care Services National Law (Section 162B). This training is separate from the Units of Competency within this qualification. Further information on who needs to complete the Foundation and/or Advanced National Child Safety Training, timeframes for completing the training, and how to access the training can be found at acecqa.gov.au
